In this course we will explore some of the many ethical challenges posed by emerging technologies used for Defence and Security purposes. This course will provide the student with an understanding of fundamental ethical questions related to AI, algorithms, human enhancement, surveillance, drones and cyber warfare technologies and techniques; analysis of Law and Ethics for Defence Industries and Engineers will also be part of the curriculum. This course will provide a historical contrast with which to compare and contextualize the novel and exciting challenges of the 21st century. By the end of this course the student will be able to identify and distinguish ethical challenges particular to emerging technologies, as well as the implications of such technology for important moral concepts such as agency, responsibility and privacy.
