This module aims to assist students to recognise how social relations govern society and determine the function of the society and the hierarchical relations within it. Additionally, to offer a strong theoretical background that would assist students’ reflection on the evaluation of their personal perspectives about the Media. Those will serve as the background on which to develop specialised techniques and professional capacities in journalism and communication in the second year.
With the use of printed and electronic material, new media and social networking, in the Module offered in the 1st year of study the following subjects are developed:
1. Sociology and the contemporary world
2. Social Psychology and the contemporary world
3. Cultural studies and the contemporary world
4. Semiotics and the contemporary world
5. Theory of sciences and the contemporary world
5. Public discourse and the contemporary world
The Module focuses on the:
- Socialization and social movements and the influences of public discourse
- Individual and collective identities as the causes of social action, such as propaganda and social movements
- Liberal and Marxist analyzes of the role of the Media
- Linguistic and non-linguistic signs and symbols in public speech
- The influence of science on the formation of the modern society
- The demands and the themes of public speech
