Dr. Yun Liu, Associate Professor at the Department of International Studies of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, is visiting the Open University of Cyprus, and more specifically the “PNYX: Political History, Theory and Practice” and “Master of Business Administration (The Open MBA)”, under the Erasmus+ International Mobility Programme. The overall title of his course is "Globalization and Green Business: The Role of China".
Dr Yun Liu finished his bachelor and master degree of finance and industrial economics in Wuhan, China before he completed his doctorate degree (Queen’s & Alberta, History & Finance) in Canada, where he studied, taught and lived across Eastern and West-Central Canada. He joined the Department of International Studies at the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in China on December 2022. His research interest is focused on most research themes concerning East and Southeast Asia, which all have a critical transition moment in the regional and global history. His research background widely extends from the cross-disciplinary domains of World/Asian History and Development Studies, to the overlapping fields of International Political Economy to Environmental-industrial Policy Studies. Cultural Studies connected with a wider range of Governance and Ethical issues is also one of his research interest.

1st Lecture: Modern Asian History: Colonialism, Imperialism and Modernization
This lecture will address the historical themes and some “revision” or anti-Eurocentric narratives of Colonialism, Imperialism and Modernization in Asia; the discussion focus will settle on East Asia and Southeast Asia. The talk will target the students of the OUC Postgraduate Programme “PNYX: Political History, Theory and Practice”, and any person interested in this popular topic.

2nd Lecture: Diversity vs Unity of Peoples and Societies of Pacific Asia
The lecture will discuss some additional historically relevant topics that deal with Asian experience and themes of Colonialism and Ethnographies. The lecturer will review some scholarship in the domains of Asian Studies, particularly about its intellectual and cultural past, extending from religious studies to evolving local societies.

The session entitled “Globalization and the Role of China” is focused on (de-)Globalization and the role of China in this ongoing process. It is designed primarily for the students of the “Business Administration” programmes of the Open University of Cyprus (Bachelor and Masters), but is open also to the public, and a wider audience. The speaker will provide an introduction to China’s international relations drawing, where appropriate, on international relations theory.
The session entitled “Green Business in China” will discuss the topic of Green Business in China, and we will prioritize exploring from perspectives of Chinese consumers, and those of businesses/enterprises and the overall ‘green’ business environment. The talk will address China’s green business adapting paths for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and relevant agendas in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
