[10/01/2024] Hybrid Public Lecture: “How to Retain Quality Teachers? International Ethical Perspectives for Teacher Professional Growth”

The Postgraduate Programme “Educational Leadership and Policy” of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) and the Cyprus Association of Educational Leadership are co-organising on the 10th of January 2024 a hybrid public lecture entitled: How to Retain Quality Teachers? International Ethical Perspectives for Teacher Professional Growth”. The invited speaker is Professor Orly Shapira-Lischinsky, Head of the Leadership, Organizational Development and Policy in Education Programmes of Bar-Ilan University. Dr Shapira-Lischinsky will be visiting the Open University of Cyprus in the context of the Erasmus+ International Mobility Programme. The event will start at 18:30 pm (GMT+2), and it will be open to teachers, academics, researchers, students, and the public. For face-to-face participation, the lecture will be held at the OUC Main Building on 33 Yiannou Kranidioti Avenue, 2220 Latsia, Nicosia. Teacher retention is associated with teacher professional growth. In this presentation, Prof. Shapira-Lischinsky will argue on how to retain quality teachers by utilizing the socio-ecological model. Teachers' professional growth is also associated with an ecological relationship with teacher retention. Therefore, it is important to combine forces, involving leaders from various fields such as academia, policymakers, and practitioners, in order to retain teachers toward "Teacher Professional Growth". She will promote this aspect by including team-based-simulation in the Bar-Ilan Univertsity’s leadership programme.

Dr Orly Shapira-Lischinsky is Professor in the Department of Educational Administration, Leadership and Policy, School of Education, at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat-Gan, Israel. Her main research areas include: Comparative education, International assessments in science and math (TIMSS), Organizational ethics; Code of Ethics, Teachers' withdrawal behaviors (lateness, absenteeism, and turnover), Mentoring in educational systems, Simulation-based workshops. In recognition of accomplishments in her research areas, she has received in addition to MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE grant, Israeli Ministry of Education grant (subject: Successful School Leadership as a Means for Retaining Novice Teachers: Towards Developing a School Ecological Culture Measure); The Bar-Ilan University Rector's Grant, the Lookstein Center, and the Schnitzer Foundation.
