Τhe Open University of Cyprus (OUC), member of the consortium that implements the research project "Science in the City: Building Participatory Urban Learning Community Hubs through Research and Activation" (PULCHRA)", organizes an open multiplier event entitled "Share your PULCHRA challenges" on November 22, 2021 (09:15-12:15 EET). The event will be held at the Journalist House in Nicosia, it is open to the public and will be broadcasted live via the OUC YouTube channel, following this weblink: https://tinyurl.com/y62vzmvm. During the event, five (5) Cypriot schools participating in the project will present their actions and work being done by students working with communities and experts in exploring cities as urban ecosystems, and the audience will discuss best practices to support sustainable development and urban planning. Yiannis Karousos, Minister of Transport, Communications & Works, will address the event and discuss with school representatives their work in local communities to foster environmental science education for all citizens.
The OUC research team involved in PULCHRA is led by Associate Professor Antonis Zorpas (MSc in Environmental Conservation and Management), director of the Laboratory of Chemical Engineering and Sustainability Engineering. The project PULCHRA, which involves ten (10) countries, twelve (12) partners and 50+ schools, of which six (6) of them are located in Cyprus, aims to promote open schooling using "cities as urban ecosystems" and stimulate the cooperation of schools with the educational community as a whole, as well as public, private and non-governmental organizations and bodies to support environmental education to all citizens. The project is funded by the Horizon2020 programme and is coordinated by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
