Ο Στέφανος Ευθυμιάδης σπούδασε Νομικά στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Αθήνας και Ελληνική Φιλολογία στο Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης. Εξειδικεύτηκε στη Βυζαντινή Φιλολογία εκπονώντας διδακτορική διατριβή στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης με θέμα τους Βίους αγίων της περιόδου της Εικονομαχίας και ειδικότερα τον Βίο του Πατριάρχη Ταρασίου, τον οποίο εξέδωσε σε βιβλίο το 1998. Με θέμα τη βυζαντινή αγιολογία, προσωπογραφία και επιστολογραφία, άρθρα του έχουν δημοσιευτεί σε διεθνή περιοδικά και συλλογικούς τόμους. Είναι ο επιμελητής του δίτομου «Ashgate Research Companion to Byzantine Hagiography» (2011, 2014). Δεκαέξι (16) άρθρα του επανεκδόθηκαν στην περίοπτη σειρά Variorum Reprints. Έχει επίσης ασχοληθεί ιδιαίτερα με τη μελέτη του χώρου της Κάτω Ιταλίας, της Φώκαιας της Μ. Ασίας και της Λέσβου, το βυζαντινό προσωπογραφικό λεξικό της οποίας δημοσίευσε σε συνεργασία με τον Αντώνη Καλδέλλη.

Στα ερευνητικά έργα, τα οποία έχει αναλάβει ο Καθηγητής Ευθυμιάδης είτε ως επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος είτε ως συνεργάτης, συμπεριλαμβάνονται η έκδοση των επιστολών του Ιγνατίου Διακόνου (με τον Cyril Mango, 1993- 1997), η αγιολογία της Παλαιoλόγειας Περιόδου (Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Ερευνών, Ελλάδα, 2005-2008), ο κριτικός σχολιασμός της Οικουμενικής Ιστορίας του Θεοφύλακτου Σιμοκάττη (ΑΠΚΥ, 2008-2010), η κοινωνική ιστορία της Αγίας Σοφίας Κωνσταντινουπόλεως (ΑΠΚY, 2011-2013) και η πρόσληψη του Αριστοτέλη στο Βυζάντιο και στον σύγχρονο κόσμο.

SHORT VITA

Dr.  Efthymiadis studied Law at the University  of Athens and Greek Literature at the University of Crete, Greece. He then specialised in Byzantine Philology through his PhD thesis at the University of Oxford, UK. In his thesis, he dealt with the hagiography   produced   during   the period of Iconoclasm, especially the Life of Patriarch St Tarasios (1998). He has published numerous articles on Byzantine hagiography, prosopography and historiography. He was the editor of a two-volumes book entitled Ashgate Research Companion to Byzantine Hagiography (2011, 2014). Sixteen of his articles were reprinted at the distinguished series of Variorum Reprints. He also worked on the area of South Italy, Phocea in Asia Minor, and Lesbos. Together with Anthony Kaldellis he published the Byzantine Prosopography of Lesbos.

Among the  research  projects,  which  he either coordinated or participated as a partner were: The Correspondence of Ignatios the Deacon (together with Cyril Mango, 1993-1997); The Hagiography of the Palaiοlogan Period (National Research Foundation of Greece, 2005-2008); A literary reading of the Theophylaktos Simokattes’ Ecumenical History (OUC, 2008-2010), The Social History of Hagia Sophia of Constantinople (OUC, 2011-2013), and Readings of Aristotle.
