Ο Δρ. Αντώνης Α. Ζορπάς είναι απόφοιτος της Σχολής Χημικών Μηχανικών του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου της Αθήνας με διδακτορικό στην επιστημονική περιοχή Χημικών Επιστημών με έμφαση στη Μηχανική Περιβάλλοντος από το ίδιο Πανεπιστήμιο. Είναι σήμερα Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής στον τομέα της Χημικής Μηχανικής Περιβάλλοντος στο Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (ΑΠΚΥ) και διευθυντής του Εργαστηρίου Χημικής Μηχανικής και Μηχανικής Αειφορίας. Διετέλεσε πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Έρευνας (2020-2022) και Μέλος της Συγκλήτου (2018-2022) του ΑΠΚΥ. Συμμετείχε σε αρκετές τεχνικές επιτροπές στον τομέα της έρευνας και του περιβάλλοντος στην Κύπρο και στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και έχει πάνω από 20 έτη εμπειρίας στη βιομηχανία. Έχει συγγράψει και έχει δημοσιεύσει πέντε (5) βιβλία και πολλές επιστημονικές μελέτες στους τομείς της Χημικής Μηχανικής και της Μηχανικής Περιβάλλοντος με έμφαση στη διαχείριση και επεξεργασία αποβλήτων. Έχει περισσότερες από 500 δημοσιεύσεις σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά, διεθνή συνέδρια, συλλογικούς τόμους κ.λπ. Ο δείκτης h-index των δημοσιεύσεών του στο Google Scholar είναι 45 με περισσότερες από 7500 αναφορές.

Ο Α. Ο Δρ Ζορπάς διετέλεσε πρόεδρος του Συνδέσμου Επιστημόνων και Μηχανικών Περιβάλλοντος Κύπρου (2013-2019),   επιστημονικός συνεργάτης του Γραφείου της Επιτρόπου Περιβάλλοντος (2013-2019), σύμβουλος της Επιτροπής Στρατηγικού Σχεδιασμού του δικτύου EURASHE για θέματα της Συνθήκης της Μπολόνια (2018-2019), ενώ από το 2008 είναι επιστημονικός συνεργάτης της Ε.Ε. Από το 2019 συνεργάζεται με το πρόγραμμα Διδακτορικών Σπουδών του University Miguel Hernandez of Elche (Spain). Το 2019 βραβεύτηκε μαζί με άλλους ακαδημαϊκούς από τον Πρόεδρο της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας για τη συνεισφορά του στα περιβαλλοντικά δρόμενα της Κύπρου. Από το 2022 είναι Τεχνικός Σύμβουλος στον Ευρωπαϊκό Οργανισμό Άμυνας σε τομείς Ενέργειας και Περιβάλλοντος. Από το 2021 είναι μέλος του SDSN Network για την υιοθέτηση των στόχων Βιώσιμης Ανάπτυξής των Η.Ε - UN-SDGs. Από το 2021 είναι μέλος της Εθνικής Επιτροπής TC11 για την μηδενική ρύπανση (στη βάση της Ευρωπαϊκής Πράσινης Συμφωνίας υπό την ευθύνη του Τμήματος Περιβάλλοντος και της Εθνικής Επιτροπής TC323 για την Κυκλική Οικονομία υπό την ευθύνη του Κυπριακού Οργανισμού Τυποποίησης (CYS).

Για τέσσερα συναπτά έτη (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) συμπεριλήφθηκε σε έρευνα ακαδημαϊκών του Πανεπιστημίου του Stanford ανάμεσα στους κορυφαίους επιστήμονες διεθνώς στο πεδίο των Επιστημών του Περιβάλλοντος με βάση βιβλιομετρικά δεδομένα.

SHORT VITA

Dr Zorpas studied Chemical Engineering and holds a PhD in the scientific area of Chemical Science with emphasis on Environmental Management and Engineering (All from the National technical University of Athens). His PhD focuses on the Development of a Methodology for the composting of sewage sludge using Natural Minerals (Zeolites/Cli). He had or still have significant co-operations with several Universities and other Research Institutes in Europe.

He served as the Academic Coordinator of the OUC Postgraduate Programme “Environmental Conservation and Management” from 2016-2021. He is the editor of five (5) scientific books. He has more than 500 publications (including editor in books, contribution in books, papers in scientific journals and international conferences with an h-index=45 and with more than 7500 citations). He is currently in the Editorial Board of the following journals: Energies (MDPI), International Journal of Environmental Pollution Control and Management (IJEPCM) (Serials Publication & Distribution), Energy Nexus, Water, Food, Power (Elsevier), Arabian Journal of Geosciences (Associate Editor) (SRINGER), Sustainability (MPDI, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management (John Wiley & Sons Ltd and ERP Environment), Waste Management & Research (Associate Editor) (SAGE), Sustainable Chemistry and Pharmacy (Elsevier, Special Issue Guest Editor), Science of the Total Environment (Elsevier, Special Issue Guest Editor), Euro Mediterranean Journal for Environmental Integration (Springer, Special Issue Guest Editor) as well as on the "Environmental Systems Engineering” section for Frontiers in Environmental Science (Associate Editor) For more than 20 years, he was acting as Consulting Engineer on behalf of several industrial activities, government and local authorities. He was the Chairman of the Cyprus Environmental Engineers Council (2013-2019), and active member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Office of the Cyprus Commissioner for the Environment (2013- 2019). He was on the Board of Experts of EURASHE (European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (2016-2019) in Brussels and Scientific Cooperator with the EU. He is also acting as technical expert for Energy and Environment on behalf of the European Defence Agency (EDA), in the Transversal Group. In addition, his member of the National Technical Committee TC11 for Zero Pollution (European Green Deal – Zero Pollution) under the responsibility of the Cyprus Department of Environment as well as Member of the National Technical Committee CYS ISO/TC 323 “Circular Economy” under the responsibility of Cyprus Standardization Office (CYS). In 2019 he received an honorary distinction for his longstanding contribution to the environmental issues of Cyprus from the President of the Republic. He is included in the 2% of the renowned scholars in his field for two consecutive years (2019, 2020, 2021) in the study “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators, published by a research team of the Stanford University (USA), which includes the most influential researchers in the world.
