The course titled 'Space Applications for Security and Defence' focuses on utilizing space technology to enhance security in various domains, including political, military, economic, and environmental aspects. It aims to benefit all countries that have access to such capabilities. The utilization of satellite technology, which offers a broad perspective not equally available to all nations, can provide one side with a significant advantage over the other. As technology progresses, the line between military and civilian systems is becoming increasingly blurred, and commercialization has enabled more countries to access space technology. However, not all nations acquire these technologies simultaneously, resulting in innovative countries temporarily gaining advantages over others. The course's objective is to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts of space within the security and defense field. It showcases the potential of satellite technology as a powerful tool that can greatly contribute to a country's national security in all its dimensions. The course's material corresponds to the related Common Module of the European Security and Defence College, which shares the same title of "Space Applications for Security and Defence." The content was proposed and approved by the ESDC on April 16th, 2018, by the teaching personnel responsible for developing this Study Guide.
